Why the First Team Car Is a 2007 Honda Accord

Black Flag Racing’s first team car is a 2007 Honda Accord, obtained through a highly sophisticated motorsports procurement strategy known as: “we had venison and they had a car.”

This was not a branding exercise. This was a supply-chain miracle featuring deer meat and a man whose wife clearly wanted the driveway space back.

The Accord was selected because:

• It already existed, which put it ahead of every “project car” currently living in pieces behind someone’s shed.
• It sort of ran—meaning it occasionally moved under its own power.
• Replacement parts are available everywhere, including stores that primarily sell windshield washer fluid, beef jerky, and the shame that comes from breaking the head off a critical bolt.
• Nobody gets sentimental about pushing a 2007 Accord to its absolute limits for 24 hours. Rocky IVrules apply: If it dies, it dies.

Venison was chosen as the currency of exchange because:

• It was on hand, vacuum-sealed, and emotionally easier to part with than cash.
• It holds its value, especially to people who own chest freezers and say things like “backstrap” with appropriate reverence.
• It required no financing, no credit check, and no interest rate.
• The original owner was willing to trade for it.
